Kentucky Derby Celebration 5:30 PM
The Derby is one of America's great traditions and we don't want you to miss it! So we've got a big screen to watch all of the glamour and ceremony leading up to the start, and then "The Most Exciting Two Minutes in Sports!" Of course, we'll have appropriate refreshments, but what would the race be without the opportunity to place a little wager. You'll have that opportunity! You can win some nice prizes and benefit our District's Polio Plus effort.
We will be entertained by Acoustic Turnpike, a "progressive Bluegrass" band that came together in 2012. The band bridges the energy and fun of Bluegrass with a repertoire of music that will be familiar to virtually everyone lucky enough to hear them play! Acoustic Turnpike features four accomplished musicians: Bob McEvoy on vocals, Dobro and guitar; Mick Kirchner on vocals, banjo and guitar; Barb Wood on bass and Ed Bonghi on vocals, mandolin, and guitar.
Stick around after dinner the band may be back!

Kalmar Nyckle
Cruise the Christina River on the Historic Kalmar Nyckel
(Admission Fee and Reservations Required)
Come aboard the Kalmar Nyckel, Delaware’s Tall Ship, for a 90-
minute cruise of the Christina River. You will see the sights, old
and new, along the river, including Fort Christina, “Delaware’s
Plymouth Rock”, the historic Joseph R. Biden Jr. Rail station and
Tubman Garrett Park, the Port of Wilmington and more.
On board the ship, the crew will talk with guests about the ship, its special place in history and what made it unique in 1638 and today. Check out her carvings from the dock before you step aboard. The stern carvings are all newly-painted with period-correct hues, and the gilded figurehead, "Leo the Lion," shows his fierce teeth!
The ship will depart from and return to Dravo Plaza, adjacent to the Chase Center.
About The Kalmar Nyckel:
The original Kalmar Nyckel was one of America’s pioneering colonial ships. It served as Governor Peter Minuit’s flagship for the 1638 expedition that founded the colony of New Sweden, establishing the first permanent European settlement in the Delaware Valley, Fort Christina, in present-day Wilmington, Delaware. The new Kalmar Nyckel is a full scale and faithful reproduction of that original tall ship. It was launched from the Kalmar Nyckel Foundation shipyard onto the Christina River in
1997. The foundation’s vision is to educate visitors about Delaware’s rich maritime and colonial history through a broad array of sea- and land-based learning and recreational experiences.
